Sea Palms Resort on St. Simons Island once again became a destination for collegiate golf when it hosted the 2026 Peoples Championship March 12–14. The three-day, 54-hole tournament brought together 21 college teams from around the country, including Xavier, Western Carolina, Davidson, Samford, Villanova, Providence, Winthrop, Wright State, Charleston Southern, Siena and others. Played on Sea Palms' par-71, 6,664-yard course, the championship showcased the resort as more than a vacation destination—it is also an established setting for competitive collegiate golf. The tournament itself has an interesting history: what began in 2021 as an event that organizers hoped would attract six to eight teams quickly grew to 17 teams, and 43 different programs had participated by the 2025 edition. The 2026 championship came down to a dramatic finish. Xavier University rallied in the final round, shooting a 10-under 274 to finish at 14-under 838 and edge host Western Carolina by two strokes, with Samford finishing third at 842. Xavier freshman Cayse Morgan captured the individual championship with rounds of 69, 66 and 67 for an 11-under 202. Western Carolina's Tyler Jones finished third at 205, while Davidson's Nate Faulkner and Tennessee Tech's Haden Maxwell tied for fourth at 207. Charleston Southern's Theo Takman also turned heads, opening with a career-best 66. The exciting finish and strong field are another chapter in Sea Palms' growing history as a host site for college golf on the Georgia coast.
